A quick peek at the last Bass Massacre party at Coco66 in Brooklyn. Brought to you by Methods NYC and Profound Sound on Oct 23rd, 2009. Borgore is killing the decks, mics and crowd surfing while NYC responds appropriately. Reid Speed lends a hand on levels for a sec. MC Diggadee grabs a chorus, Dave Gee leaves the decks to shoot the video. No doubt Trigon & Eshin were causing mayhem under the cover of darkness and VJ Pixalot cuts it all up for your viewing pleasure.

VJ Pixalot Interviews Jay Smith of Livid about the new Ohm64 VJ controller

June 8, 2009

After hearing about the new Livid Ohm64 VJ controller, I wanted to get the scoop straight from Jay at Livid. It seems that the laws of supply and demand affect VJs too. In response to the increasing sales of Ohm VJ controller to DJs, Livid Instruments has gone back to the drawing board with the Ohm64 controller to address some midi functionality/ programmability issues to make a more DJ friendly device. ( not that VJs haven’t also been complaining about the Ohm’s lack of midi mapping for a while.) What do you think? Are the DJs stealing our toys or are we getting a better device??????

Pixalot: How did you modify the design to better cater to musicians?

JS: First, we extended the grid to 8×8, since so much contemporary and popular music is anchored on some relative of the number 8. Next, we discarded any labels that implied some pre-determined use, as the original Ohm was labeled in accordance with functions of our Union software. We expanded the number of knobs to create more of an eq-friendly layout. Finally, all the controls can be remapped to send a variety of messages – this programmability is pretty essential in accommodating the diverse uses of equipment in music production.
